PBGC translates all incoming customer mail if received in a language other than English.

Customers do not need to translate documents before sending them to PBGC.

Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Language Access Plan

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) is a federal government agency that protects the pension benefits of millions of American workers and retirees in defined benefit pension plans of the private sector under the terms of Title IV of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974, 29 U.S.C. § 1301-1461. PBGC engages in activities to preserve plans and protect participants by administering two separate insurance programs. The Single-employer plans generally are maintained by one employer or by a group of companies under common control. The Multiemployer plans generally are maintained by two or more unrelated companies under collective bargaining agreements with one or more unions.

PBGC is committed to providing individuals with access to our programs and services, regardless of their ability to communicate in English.

PBGC provides a telephone interpreter services that allows on-call interpretation to facilitate communications between PBGC employees and PBGC participants with a Limited English Proficiency (LEP participants). There are interpreters available in 250 different languages.

PBGC correspondence can be requested in the participant’s preferred language and, when deemed necessary, PBGC will translate letters, forms, and enclosures.

Participants wishing to receive correspondence in language other than English should contact the PBGC Customer Contact Center to request a Language Preference change.

How to Obtain Assistance from PBGC

People who need language assistance in communicating with PBGC may obtain it by:

  • Calling or writing to PBGC’s Customer Contact Center. The contact center may be reached by calling 1-800-400-7242 (TTY/ASCII users may call 711)
  • Sending an email to customerservice@pbgc.gov
  • Writing to PBGC, PO Box 151750, Alexandria, VA 22315-1750
